Cosmetic Acupuncture FAQ

Why should I consider Cosmetic Acupuncture instead of conventional medical treatments such as plastic surgery, injectable substances, or other techniques?

Cosmetic Acupuncture provides an alternative to surgery and injections of dangerous substances. There is no painful recovery, trauma or swelling. There is also no discoloration or recuperation time. Cosmetic Acupuncture is virtually risk-free with none of the side effects associated with surgery such as scarring, prolonged bruising or numbness.

How does Cosmetic Acupuncture really work?

Tiny needles inserted into the face cause micro-trauma which stimulates the body’s repair process at a cellular level. Cells that form collagen and elastin are attracted to the site allowing revitalization and tightening to occur. Blood circulation also increases which improves color and helps to shed dead skin cells more rapidly.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Expect to spend 1 to 2 hours on your first visit. Please download the office forms you need to complete before your first visit (See Cosmetic Acupuncture New Patient Forms). After an initial consultation, you will receive a comprehensive exam. This allows us to customize a cosmetic treatment plan for you. Then we will begin treatment.

How often are the Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments and how many will I need?

For optimal results, treatments are scheduled twice a week for 5 weeks (10 treatments), but more may be needed depending on your skin condition. If you need results faster (like for a big event), ask about other possible schedules.

Do you use disposable needles?

Absolutely, our needles are sterile, stainless steel and incinerated after each use.

Will Cosmetic Acupuncture hurt?

Facial needles are significantly thinner than body Acupuncture needles. Some of our most sensitive patients occasionally report pressure or even a slight pinch during the treatment. The face as a general rule is very sensitive with many nerves close to the surface. We use gentle techniques as our patient’s comfort is paramount. The mild sensation of Acupuncture is nothing compared discomfort from large injection needles used for fillers or the pain of therapies like micro-derm abrasion.

How long will the effect last?

Results may last from 2 to 5 years. After the initial 10 treatment regimen, a maintenance schedule will be tailored to your specific needs. Individual results may vary.

Will I Have homework?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is based on the premise of general good health and balance. Common sense advice regarding life-style and diet apply. Smoking, sun exposure without adequate protection and lack of hydration from proper water intake will reduce treatment effects. Other things that can be done to maximize and maintain the results of cosmetic acupuncture treatments are moisturizing the skin and a diet rich in antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. Eating a well-balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, complex carbohydrates, and lean protein is highly recommended. Drinking green tea is also suggested.

What should I wear?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing if possible and remove all makeup and foundation.

Will insurance cover the Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Insurance companies consider all cosmetic treatments as elective procedures. If you participate in a Health Savings Account it may be used to cover the treatment cost with pre-tax funds.

Who is a good candidate for Cosmetic Acupuncture?

A good candidate for Cosmetic Acupuncture is someone who wants to look and feel his or her best but does not want surgery. Bridal parties, business women/men, busy moms, housewives, models, actors, newscasters, people going to class reunions, salespeople, and realtors are all great examples.

Who should not get Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is not recommended for those who are pregnant, are needle phobics, or those with blood clotting disorders.

Please talk with Dr Green before starting Cosmetic Acupuncture if you are recovering from a serious illness, are a regular migraine sufferer, or suffering through an acute herpes outbreak.

We do offer other treatments to strengthen your health during outbreaks of these conditions.

Is it OK if I smoke?

Heavy smoking negatively affects your treatment results. This is partially due to the smoking action which creates puckering and dryness around the mouth. The heavy chemical intake creates heat and dryness in the body and cuts off circulation in the body especially to the face. This is the exact opposite of the treatment effect of Cosmetic Acupuncture. We do not treat smokers with Cosmetic Acupuncture. However, we do have a smoking cessation program that would be of great benefit.
